Amul, the popular Indian dairy brand, has been rated as the top Indian Green Brand by Green Brands Global Survey in an opinion poll conducted in eight countries.

Amul's initiative of planting 8-9 million saplings by its three million members on a single day on August 15 in 15,000 villages has been recognized by the consumers, according to the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation.

GCMMF, the state's largest milk producer, markets milk and dairy products under the Amul brand. Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation is also India's largest food products marketing organisation. It is a state level apex body of milk cooperatives in Gujarat which aims to provide remunerative returns to the farmers and also serve the interest of consumers by providing quality products which are good value for money.

A total of 24 million saplings have been planted so far over four years and another 10 million will be planted on August 15 this year.

A team from Cohn and Wolfe, a global communication and public relation agency, Esty Environmental Partners and Penn Schoen Berland conducted the public opinion research in which over 9,000 people polled in eight countries to rank more than 370 brands.

The research focused on finding out which brand enjoys greenest reputation across the world, it said.

The countries, where the poll was conducted, included Australia, Brazil, China, France, Germany, USA, UK and India.

Amul has ranked first amongst the Indian brands, which included Dabur, Taj Hotels, Suzlon, Wipro, Maruti, Birtannia, Infosys, Hindustan Unilever and Godrej Consumer Products.
